The National Congress of Gujarati Organisations UK hosted a political conference on Monday 23rd March 2015. Guest speakers included the Secretary of State for Communities, the Rt Hon. Eric Pickles MP; the Shadow Minister for International Development, Mary Creagh MP; the Chairman of the Conservative Party, Lord Andrew Feldman and Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee. Attendees were welcomed by Mr Sharad Parikh, President of the National Congress of Gujarati Organisations (NCGO) UK and C J Rabheru, NCGO Vice President, to the Royal Overseas League (ROSL) in London. The panel debate, moderated by Mr C B Patel, Founder of Asian Voice & Guajrat Samchar, Chair of the NCGO Patrons Council, also heard from Subhash Thakrar about issues relating to the Gujarati business community; Lopa Patel MBE about topics pertinent to Asian women and youth; Alpesh Patel on political engagement and Kanti Nagda, Chair of the NCGO Advisory Council, on the concerns of the elderly and immigrant Gujarati population. NCGO Secretary Mahendra Jadeja gave the closing speech and vote of thanks.

About the NCGO

The National Congress of Gujarati Organisations (NCGO) UK was officially launched on 31st May 1986 in the presence of the then Home Secretary The Rt Hon. Douglas Hurd MP. It was created as an umbrella organisation representing all the Gujarati groups in the UK, to be a single voice of the diaspora, at local and national Government level. Its aims are to work for a civic society based on the principles of social justice and equal rights, offering opportunities for all and to foster a better understanding and relationship between the various communities in the UK. NCGO now has 105 members of affiliated Gujarati organisation with deep links to the 865,000 Gujaratis now living in the UK. Gujaratis make up 57.6% of the British Indian population which stands as 1.5 million, based on the Census 2011.
