The highly anticipated CogX Awards took place on Tuesday 12 September 2023 on the opening day of the CogX Festival, honouring the finest in AI, technology and innovation from across the globe. With winners announced in over 30 categories, the ceremony celebrated the innovators and change-makers who are helping us to “get the next ten years right.”

CogX CEO Charlie Muirhead welcomed the attendees to the awards evening where he emphasised the role that each individual can play to make a positive impact: “We come together to celebrate not just technology and AI, but the human spirit behind every line of code, algorithm, and disruptive idea. While we are mesmerised by the breakneck speed of innovations, it’s vital to remember that at the heart of every breakthrough is a person. Someone with the passion and tenacity to change how things are done.

Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Michelle Donelan, was also a special guest and delivered a message highlighting the role of AI in shaping the UK’s future, echoing her keynote address earlier in the day to attendees at the Global Leadership Summit.

A highlight of the night was the presentation of the new Rising Startup Star award to Zero Gravity, sponsored by AlbionVC. Zero Gravity, founded by Joe Seddon, is a digital platform that propels students from low-income backgrounds into university, work and life. As the winner of the Rising Startup Star award for the most promising startup from the CogX startup programme, Zero Gravity took home a cash prize of £25,000.

This year’s 7th annual CogX Awards assembled the most diverse judging panel ever with judges representing business, academia, entrepreneurs and investors from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Lopa Patel MBE who said, “the calibre of the shortlist for the CogX Awards was high and I was delighted to see the diversity of applicants and broad spectrum of AI innovations. Many congratulations to all the nominees and winners.”
