The Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023 list was launched by equality charity Diversity UK, in association with law firm Eversheds Sutherland and Cambridge-based Biorbyt, one of Europe’s largest bio-reagents supplier. The event took place in Central London on Wednesday 5 July 2023 and simultaneously saw the release of the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023 list; the presentation of 30 Asian Tech Pioneers Awards, an insightful discussion on ‘AI and HealthTech’ and a Tech Showcase featuring four innovators. Now in its ninth year, the list celebrates the outstanding contribution made by British Asians to this country’s digital economy.

Lopa Patel MBE, Chair of Diversity UK said; “It was a busy evening, but with the support of our partners, Eversheds Sutherland and Biorbyt, I was pleased that we organised a really enjoyable, insightful and informal event that has received a lot of positive feedback. We published the definitive list of the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023 celebrating diversity in the digital sector with a special focus on innovation, the ninth year for the feat!”

Panel discussion on AI and HealthTech

The panel discussion on AI and HealthTech panellists included:

Shafi Ahmed is a surgeon, teacher, futurist, innovator, entrepreneur and an evangelist in augmented and virtual reality best known for performing the world’s first virtual reality operation recorded and streamed live in 360 degrees which was watched by 55000 people in 142 countries. His virtual reality company, Medical Realities has launched the world’s first learning and training module in VR.

Jon Gill, Partner at Eversheds Sutherland Corporate team specialising in venture capital, private equity and M&A transactions in the TMT sector.

Hanadi Jabado, Managing Partner at Sana Capital who is a start-up advisor, angel investor and non-executive who is passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation. She supports early-stage businesses across a range of sectors with a focus on healthcare and deep-tech.

Qun Yang, Co-Founder and COO of Biorbyt, one of Europe’s largest bioscience hubs, providing antibodies, small molecules, ELISA kits and protein services to the global scientific community. Qun holds an MPhil in Therapeutic Sciences and an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and is applying AI to antibody design.

The panel was moderated by Lopa Patel MBE, who is a digital entrepreneur with experience of creating start-ups and transforming businesses through technology. The founder of two ventures in online media and a data-driven marketing consultancy, she is also Chair equality charity, Diversity UK, and curator of the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech list.

The list addresses the perceived lack of diversity in the tech sector and showcases the wealth of talent that is currently helping the British tech scene grow.
