The University of Manchester celebrated its bicentenary with a ‘Universally Manchester Festival’ from 6 – 9 June 2024 with 150+ free events at its iconic Oxford Road campus. Guests experienced everything from poetry to physics, music to medicine, computing to creative writing and more – with entertaining talks and powerful performances, inspiring exhibitions and immersive art installations, drop-in craft sessions and amazing hands-on activities.

Since January 2024, the university had been celebrating its people – historical icons such as Alan Turing and Christabel Pankhurst, to the trailblazers driving change today – recognising their incredible achievements and the impact they have made, in Manchester and around the world, in a year-long programme of events.

The bicentenary represents a significant milestone for the University, and the chance to both reflect and look ahead. ‘With collaboration at the heart of our community, we want to mark 200 years of education and innovation by engaging with staff, students, alumni, our partners and the public to shape the celebrations to come.

Founded in 1824, the University of Manchester celebrates its bicentenary throughout 2024, marking 200 years of education and innovation.
